"Baphe" and "Metis," meaning absorption of knowledge, or baptism of Metis who is a Goddess of Wisdom.
The name of the Templar Baphomet should be spelled Kabalistically backwards, producing three abbreviations: TEM OHP AB, which represents the Latin phrase: "Templi Omnivm Hominum Pacis Abbas," translating to: "The Father Of The Temple Of Peace Of All Men,” which-- it's temple has a sole purpose of bringing peace to the world, despite popular programming.
Let me explain this force/Spirit to you further.
In Dogme et Ritual de la Haute Magie, the following was explained regarding Baphomet, which I think provides a wonderful overstanding:
"The goat which is represented in our frontispiece bears upon its forehead the Sign of the Pentagram with one point in the ascendant, which is sufficient to distinguish it as a symbol of the light. Moreover, the sign of occultism is made with both hands, pointing upward to the white moon of Chesed, and downward to the black moon of Geburah. This sign expresses the perfect concord between mercy and justice.
One of the arms is feminine and the other masculine, as in the androgyne of Khunrath, those attributes we have combined with those of our goat, since they are one and the same symbol. The torch of intelligence burning between the horns is the magical light of universal equilibrium; it is also the type of the soul, exalted above matter, even while cleaving to matter, as the flame cleaves to the torch.
The monstrous head of the animal expresses horror of sin, for which the material agent, alone responsible, must alone and forever bear the penalty, because the soul is impassible in its nature and can suffer only by materializing.
The caduceus, which, replaces the generative organ, represents eternal life; the scale-covered belly typifies water; the circle above it is the atmosphere, the feathers still higher up signify the volatile; lastly, humanity is depicted by the two breasts and the androgyne arms of this sphinx of the occult sciences."
My personal overstanding of Baphomet, the Horned God, in summary is the following (I shall try to provide insight as best as possible):
Baphomet represents the initiatory process into the Higher Self.
The wings represent Heaveny desires, and the horn represents EArthly desires. Understanding the self utilizing these tools. What is desire? What is Heavenly? What is EArthly?
Baphomet is the personification of sum total of all of EArth-- in other words, he is the force that allows for everything TO BE. His current is one that dissolves opposites. He is a cypher for Sophia... and not just WISDOM, BUT Wisdom without words. The Ayahuasca type of Wisdom is how I can best describe it (which btw is also associated with Baphomet, Hekate.... all that is Pan). The type of non-verbal Wisdom encounters that can take years to process and years to gain insights. The type of non-verbal understandings that depict the illusion of opposites around us. Baphomet is the deprogramming of "dominant dogmas," which include an overstanding that it is not about good vs. evil or angels vs. devils, rather, it is about the illusion of opposites, and overstanding this so that one/we can become any AND everything, and so that can do any AND everything. It is an understanding that each opposite defines itself to continuously break through illusions.
Dissolve and re-create.
Dissolve and re-create.
After you dissolve opposites, what is it that you would like to re-create?
This freedom is Baphomet.
As my mentor Guru Singh would say: "Obstacles are our greatest Guardians."
Baphomet is the second part of this process, as he dissolves this.
There are no obstacles.
....and so it is.
